Data Center Munich I

Availability meets efficiency

The larger a data center is, the more fail-safe and energy-efficient it can be operated.

Good for our customers: EMC Home of Data operates one of Bavaria's largest and most modern data centers in Munich, which houses the regional MuCon-X connectivity and cloud for the D-A-CH region.

We thus provide robust environments that offer enormous performance with maximum availability and high cost efficiency. A central nervous system (DCIM) monitors and controls all components of the data center campus using thousands of sensors and measuring points. This allows failure risks to be detected at an early stage, so that thanks to the existing redundancies, there is little or no impact in the event of a malfunction.

The stability and efficiency of our data center is clearly reflected in the figures:
Campus availability 99.9995% p.a., PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) below 1.20. Green electricity share: 100%.

Our “High 5” for high availability

  • Power supply
  • Air conditioning
  • Fire protection
  • Security
  • Redundancy

Data Center MUC I

  • Up to 7,000 m2 of data center space available
  • Over 3,500 racks
  • More than 150,000 servers for outsourcing, hosting, cloud, and backup services

Energy Supply

100% available and 100% green: The EMC Home of Data data center campus is supplied via separate, exclusive 10kV lines in its own transformer stations and routed to the customer's IT via a two-path cascaded distribution system.

  • Multiple building feeds
  • Own transformer stations in the building
  • Two-path energy distribution
  • Power supply systems in accordance with DIN EN 50600 in class VK3*
  • Power supply via own photovoltaic system, with any additional energy required coming from 100% TÜV-certified green electricity
  • Multiple emergency power and UPS systems (N+1 or 2N+1) for uninterrupted load transfer in the event of power failures

* Can also be modified upon customer request

You are welcome to request our detailed description of the Munich I data center with further details.

“The power supply at EMC Home of Data is particularly impressive thanks to its logical and stringent design.”

H. Gschwandner, HPE GmbH

Climate Control

The high energy requirements of modern data centers necessitate permanent, standard-compliant cooling. EMC Home of Data's cooling concepts begin with the type of building structure and also include emergency cooling systems.

  • Redundant cooling network to supply the server rooms and technical areas
  • Cooling units protected from view and access at a height of approx. 30 m on the campus roof
  • Redundant designs with PPUE < 1.18 (Partial Power Usage Effectiveness)
  • Cooling units in the server rooms and network pumps are mostly UPS-buffered and designed in accordance with DIN EN 50600
  • Adiabatic and emergency cooling systems provide additional safeguards and efficiency measures.

“We are delighted to be working with our partner EMC Home of Data to implement our CoolW@ll solution in such a prestigious environment.”

M. Köster, Head of SBA ICT Weiss Klimatechnik GmbH

Fire Protection

In a data center, fires can have fatal consequences and lead to the failure of entire infrastructures. That is why fire protection is a particularly high priority at EMC Home of Data.

  • Over 10 completely separate fire protection and extinguishing areas, with self-sufficient gas extinguishing systems
  • Comprehensive fire alarm network, with highly sensitive devices for early detection (VESDA)
  • Design in accordance with DIN EN 50600 and VdS
  • Daily safety inspections and quarterly maintenance
  • Entire system connected to the fire department

“No one ever wants to experience it, but we must always be prepared for a fire.”

W. Steinbach, CEO of Steinbach

Building Safety

Our DC campus is located in the north of Munich, in a traffic-calmed zone of an industrial park. There is no risk of earthquakes or flooding in the region. The building is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • Solid reinforced concrete construction, largely windowless
  • No underground excavations
  • Video-monitored fencing
  • Security zones in accordance with DIN EN 50600 in class SK4
  • All data center areas secured with biometric access control, video surveillance, and access control systems

Only authorized access or access after registration is permitted, including complete logging. At the customer's request, racks can be connected to our centrally administered electronic rack locking system.

“What we really appreciate is that EMC Home of Data has enabled us to incorporate our own monitoring mechanisms. We are not just a number here; we are an individual customer.”

A. Wilson, Managing Director, transnet internet services GmbH

High Availability

When it comes to data center infrastructure, EMC Home of Data makes no compromises.

Neither in terms of security and power supply, nor in terms of air conditioning and fire protection. Our facilities are designed for maximum availability. More precisely: more than 99.9999% campus availability since 2008.

  • Infrastructures certified according to DIN EN 50600 in availability class VK3 and efficiency class GN3
  • Selection of all contractual partners for the installation, operation, and maintenance of components exclusively in accordance with ISO 9001 and 27001 certification
