Sustainability and CSR

Designed for the future right from the start.

Our promise for the future.
EMC Take Care.

Sustainability and CSR (corporate social responsibility) have been essential components of EMC Home of Data's corporate philosophy for many years. Why? Because we have been aware from the outset that, as an energy-intensive data center operator, we have a special responsibility.

This is precisely where our EMC Take Care program comes in—a promise to our environment, our employees, our customers, and our society.

As part of a voluntary commitment, we invest 10% of our operating profit each year in measures that benefit these four stakeholder groups.

We were one of the first companies to be certified according to the international management standard CSR 26001 “Social Responsibility - Requirements.”

But we wanted to do more: As the initiator and founder of the non-profit organization TheResponse gGmbH, we are working together with other companies to promote sustainable change in our economy and a sustainable society.

“Those who act sustainably and responsibly today will also be a future-proof partner for customers and employees tomorrow – this mindset is in our DNA, deeply rooted in our corporate philosophy. With EMC Take Care, we want to turn our conviction into action where it is needed.”

Eva Huter, Head of CSR at EMC Home of Data GmbH

Climate-neutral Data Centers

Innovation generates power for sustainability

The demands placed on data centers in our digital world are constantly growing, but so is their energy consumption. From the very beginning, our goal has therefore been to operate our facilities in the most environmentally friendly way possible and to continuously optimize our processes, because we know that this is the only way to meet society's requirements in the future.

Since 2012, we have covered 100% of our data centers' energy requirements with TÜV-certified green electricity from river hydropower. Energy efficiency has increased by over 50% in the last 10 years, as existing solutions are always replaced by more efficient ones when new technical equipment is purchased – even if this means up to 20% higher investment costs.

Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact

Committed to our shared vision

The European Green Deal calls for a climate-neutral Europe by 2050, with a particular focus on data centers. As a signatory to the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact (CNDPC), EMC Home of Data is committed to a self-regulatory initiative with specific benchmarks and targets to make data centers climate neutral by 2030.

With a PUE value of less than 1.20 and 100% green electricity, EMC already meets the key criteria.

In 2022, the complete conversion of regular operations to an efficient energy recovery system—based on the intelligent use of waste heat from data centers—is also scheduled to be completed.

Racks4Roots

Sustainability has to take root

Stable environments are as vital to businesses as they are to nature. With the Racks for Roots campaign, we are bringing the two together and making an important contribution to the reforestation of protective forests.

For every rack we operate, we plant a tree – every year, selected according to strict ecological criteria, in close cooperation with the German Forest Protection Association.

In addition to planting through EMC Home of Data, you can support Racks4Roots in your own name.

Employees and working environment

With each other and for each other

Our employees are the driving force behind all our activities and therefore also the basis for our long-term success. With our EMC Take Care program, we want to give them more than just the opportunity to participate in meaningful activities. We also want to show them our appreciation by explicitly recognizing them as an important part of our CSR program that deserves to be promoted.

We are committed to ensuring that our employees can perform their duties safely and remain healthy, find a good work-life balance, and we support their personal training and development.
